If you’ve talked to neighbors and friends about their secret to looking younger, BOTOX® Cosmetic has probably come up more than once. This go-to wrinkle relaxer is a quick fix for lines on the upper face that make you look older than you feel. The treatment is straightforward, but pricing can be confusing. This blog looks at the unit cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic and how that translates into your treatment pricing.

What Is the Average Cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic Per Unit?

The cost of a single unit of BOTOX® Cosmetic averages $10 to $18 in the U.S. Does that mean your wrinkle treatment costs less than admission to your favorite flick? Not exactly. A unit of BOTOX® Cosmetic isn’t sufficient to treat any area of the face. In fact, most treatments require 20 to 40 units, bringing the average cost of a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment to around $420.

How Many BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections Will I Need?

The number of units required for a treatment depends on a few variables, including:

  • The size of the treatment area
  • The current depth of the wrinkles
  • The strength of the facial muscles
  • Whether the patient has had previous treatments

Larger treatment areas, like the forehead, may require more units than treating the fine lines in the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet). Frown lines, those vertical lines that form between the eyebrows, can also require more units since the muscles that form these lines are usually stronger than other facial muscles.

Patients who schedule regular BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments may need less of the neurotoxin over time, as the medication may actually “train” the muscles to remain relaxed for longer periods. These patients can sometimes spread their treatments farther apart, which can also help them save money on their BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures.

Factors That Impact the Cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic

Numerous factors may impact the cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic by unit, which will ultimately affect your treatment cost. These factors include:

Number of Treatment Areas

Since BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick, relatively easy treatment, patients often choose to treat multiple areas in a single session. The more wrinkles you treat, the higher your cost will be. Some treatments also require injections on both sides of the face, such as when treating crow’s feet. This can increase the cost.

Provider Experience and Expertise

Experienced providers typically charge more for their services, including their BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. You may be tempted to go with the lowest bidder, but keep in mind that neurotoxins require precision and artistry to achieve optimal results. You’re not just paying for your product; you are also investing in expertise, safety, and natural results.

Provider’s Geographical Location

Location can also affect your BOTOX® Cosmetic cost, as providers typically set prices based on the cost of living in their area. You may find that clinics in major cities or on the coast tend to charge more than those in rural areas.

Many providers offer periodic specials on injectable treatments or discounted packages for patients who purchase multiple treatments at once. Clinics also provide financing options to make treatments more affordable for patients.

How Long Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Last?

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets the facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles in the upper face. The neurotoxin blocks signals from the nerves that tell muscles to contract. The effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic are temporary. Once they wear off, the muscles resume contracting and lines start to form again.

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments may last anywhere from three to six months. At that point, you will need to schedule another procedure to preserve your positive results. Most patients require treatments two or three times a year to maintain their youthful appearance.
